During August, the wineries of Baja California host a huge harvest festival that culminates in a paella cookoff in which about a hundred groups compete. Attendees get to sample both paella and the fabulous local wines. Just a couple hours south of San Diego, it is one of Mexico's great festvals--still small enough t feel genuine, even home-spun.
