INGREDIENTS

  • 8 garlic cloves, peeled
  • A scant scant ½ cup ground ancho chile powder (available from national companies, like McCormick, Mexican groceries and internet sites)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, preferably Mexican canela
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano, preferably Mexican
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar (apple cider vinegar is common in Mexico)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt

INSTRUCTIONS

In a microwave safe measuring cup, measure 1 ¼ cup water, add the garlic and microwave for 1 ½ minutes.  Pour the water and garlic into the blender jar and add the remaining ingredients.  Blend until completely smooth.  Cover and store in the refrigerator.
